Apple has completely switched to alternative energy sources

Apple is known not only for the release of iPhone phones and MacBook laptops but also for the fact that it has been ranked first in Greenpeace’s green list for three years. In the spring of this year, Google made a statement that all of its global operations are carried out only through the use of alternative energy sources. That is, Google buys much more alternative energy than it uses. As for Apple, it also made a similar statement.

Google and Apple do not provide “pure” electricity for all 100%. Previously, we already wrote about Google’s success in alternative energy. Companies buy the volumes they need from other companies. Let’s try to explain what the essence is. Apple’s stores, offices, and production facilities take electricity, like other companies, from the city’s electricity grids. That is, the company gets “dirty” electricity, which then completely compensates for “clean”. The company emphasizes that it not only buys “clean” electricity but does everything for the development of the selected infrastructure and uses it. Apple has funded two-thirds of the power needed to meet its own electricity needs at its own expense.

Apple has 25 worldwide active alternative energy facilities that generate 626 MW of power to companies in 43 countries worldwide. 286 MW of power is produced by solar power plants that were launched in 2017.

In addition, Apple says that 9 important supplier companies use purely “pure” electricity. The use of green energy is one of the prerequisites for cooperation.

At Apple, they say that due to their initiative, the amount of carbon dioxide emissions has decreased by 54%. That is, the environment was thrown down by 2.1 million tons of carbon dioxide less. It is worth noting that the company does not stop at the achieved. At the moment, Apple is building 15 facilities that will be able to generate 1.4 GW of power after commissioning.


The US large-scale project in the field of alternative energy

Earlier we have already written about investments in “green energy” in different countries. Today we want to talk about one of the most ambitious projects in the USA. For the next five years, New York will put in about $1.5 billion in various renewable energy projects. Governor Andrew Cuomo along with Al Gore made such a statement on March 9 this year. By 2030, 26 far-reaching in the field of alternative energy will be able to provide half of the required electricity to the city.

Most projects will present the solar industry. Almost 85% of new reliable energy sources will provide enough power to supply more than 430 thousand homes and reduce carbon emissions by 16 million metric tons. Three wind farms and one hydropower plant will combine new projects, increasing the capacity of renewable capacity by 1.3 GW.

The US large-scale project in the field of alternative energy

Andrew Cuomo is known for his motion against the Oil and Gas Leasing Program on the OCS. Like Florida, New York does not want to be related to an offshore drilling plan that seeks to explore more sources of fossil fuels. The solar panel plant will be built in Ukraine

Recently, it has become known that the company NES ESTEIT, LLC received from the Vinnytsya Executive Committee all information regarding the conditions and limitations of designing a plant that will manufacture solar panels. Vinnytsya Executive Committee obliged NES ESTEIT, LLC to obtain all information in accordance with clause 3 of Article 29 of the Ukrainian Law “On Regulation of Urban Development”. After this, the company must develop and approve the project documentation in accordance with this law. It is worth noting that before the building will be put into operation it will be necessary to sign an agreement on payment of share participation in the development of the infrastructure of Vinnytsya. At the moment there is no information on the date of launch of the plant and its production capacity.

The experience of Europe: “smart” technologies in action

Previously, we have already written about the achievements of Korea in the field of alternative energy. Today, we want to share the experience of the European country – the Netherlands, which is known for its experiments in the field of alternative energy. Thus, electric buses with a wireless charge run the streets of Utrecht, which are charging from the socket before each flight. Similar buses are available in the Italian Turin, the German Mannheim, and several British cities. In order for the buses to be discharged to the end of the working day, special points of “recharging” are equipped at the stops. The bus can stop at such a “point” and recharge during 10 minutes. A similar stop is the main difference from the Korean technology, about what we talked earlier.

Interestingly, such buses are completely “green” transport, as it takes energy from wind turbines. At the end of the working day, unused energy returns to the city.

The Netherlands: “smart” track with solar panels for cyclists

The future is already on the threshold – in Ukraine will build the largest wind power plant in Eastern Europe


In the summer of 2017, it became known about the intentions of the large Chinese company TBEA International to build the largest wind power plant in Eastern Europe. TBEA International is engaged in the manufacture of power transformers and other electrical equipment. The project will be implemented on the territory of Ukraine – in the Berezan district of Mykolaiv region. The capacity of the future wind installation may be up to 500 MW. For comparison – this is half of nuclear power plant unit.

On December 28, 2017, Sergey Tanasov, the chairman of the regional state administration, met with representatives of TBEA International and Institute Dniprovnipienergoprom, LLC. During the meeting, the terms of project realization were discussed. The project involves the installation of one hundred wind power plants, which will be located on the territory of Tashinsk, Krasnopilsk and Anatolievsky village councils. For the installation of WPP, it will be necessary to attract 500 specialists and 100 permanent workers for further maintenance.

Representatives of the district state administration have already stated that the wind farm will become the most powerful wind farm not only in Ukraine but also in Europe. In addition, attracting investment in such volume will not only create new jobs but will also positively affect the development of the region and the image of the country. It should be noted that TBEA International works in more than 60 countries of the world.

Review of prospective projects in the field of solar energy in Ukraine


The end of 2017 and the beginning of 2018 marked a galaxy of prospective projects in the field of alternative energy. So, it is planned to build a large wind power plant in the autumn of this year in the Kherson region (Novodmitrovka, Genichesk district). The authorities have already issued an order to allocate 10 hectares of land for the project, which is being implemented by Windcraft Ukraine. It is planned to install 16 windmills, which will generate a total of 170 MW. It should be noted that the height of the windmill will be 150 meters. Work has already started; power lines that will supply electricity to the neighboring area are already almost ready.

No less unique is the already realized project in the Kyiv region in the city of Vyshgorod. It is a spherical solar power plant. The company that was installing the station gave it a name through arched designs with 13 kW solar panels installed.

The non-typical form of the station is determined by the wishes of the customer, who wanted to build a bath in a free space. The cost of the project was $12 000, and in 5-6 years the investment will be fully paid off. Home solar power plants with a capacity of up to 30 kW are eligible for payment under the “green tariff”. If such stations were launched by the end of 2017, each kW will bring 18 euro cents of profit. It should be noted that since the beginning of the year, 1200 households have purchased solar installations. Kyiv region is the leader in this rating.

Another promising project is the construction of a solar power plant with a capacity of 50 MW in the Kharkiv region. Construction will be possible thanks to the investments of the Chinese company. It became known about the negotiations between the city authorities of Pervomaisk, where the SES will be installed, and the Chinese engineering corporation. It is planned to allocate 100 hectares of land, relating to ownership, then we are talking about public-private partnership.

The “new round” of solar energy development in Japan will be possible thanks to Tesla


Global warming and aggravating of climatic problems have put the wind in alternative energy. Unfortunately, it does not apply to Japan. After all, the complex tariff system in Japan is the reason for the decline of the solar energy market. The tariff system was implemented in 2012 and regulates the purchase of alternative energy sources by utilities at fixed and prohibitively high prices. This was the root cause of the burst of new construction projects of the SES. Over time, the cost of energy has dropped, and the requirements for the construction of SES have become more stringent.

In the summer of 2017, the largest photo-galvanic exhibition took place in Yokohama, where the Tesla stand was literally “surrounded.” But, most attention was not attracted to the electro car, but the Tesla home battery. Company representatives still do not know when it will become available to Japanese users. The cost of the battery will be $ 6,194, which is 20% lower than the cost of similar batteries from other manufacturers.

Sun panels from Tesla only work in the afternoon, but the energy stored in special “cells” what is enough to feed both day and night. The company believes that special “cells” will reduce the risk of a shortage of electricity at peak hours in Japan, when large numbers of drivers charge their electric cars.

Recall that, last year Tesla redeemed SolarCity, a well-known manufacturer of photovoltaic panels, and launched the production of solar cells, batteries and electronics in the kit. It should be noted that Tesla was able to reduce the cost by 50% compared with the prices of competitors. This was made possible by SolarCity installing panels. Despite the fact that the panels will be able to pay off only 10 years later, Tesla has already received a large number of applications. Therefore, future owners will be able to get their panels at the end of 2018 or even a year later.

Tesla has six stores in different cities in Japan that can truly enliven the entire industry. However, Japan needs to prepare a special environment that will not depend on tariff regulation and will cause a cheaper energy.

The new Ukrainian startup offers to print “smart” autonomous buildings


Ukraine has a new startup, which offers to print “smart” homes in 3D format, which will allow owners do not connect with the grid. It is planned to use only solar energy. Such actions can be constructed in any place, and in the case of a transfer, it is possible to disassemble the carrier.

“Intelligent” building will be equipped with solar panels on the roof, off-line water pipeline, climate control system. It will be created wear-resistant materials for homes, which can be served at least 40 years and can be reused. These homes are created on a 3D printer.

Despite the fact that the new project looks like science fiction, but already 7 thousand people have ordered similar homes. To date, PassivDom (another name of the project) will be delivered in two versions:

  • The house has an area of 36 square meters.
  • The house has an area of ​​72 square meters, which represents 2 small modules in the house.

A small fully functioning home will cost 67 thousand dollars. The variant that connects to the electricity mains, water, and effluent disposal line cost 44 thousand dollars, and a small house without furniture, kitchen and bathroom cost only 33 thousand dollars. Large, self-contained, equipped house will cost 108 thousand dollars, without facilities – 85,3 thousand dollars.

Over the project, there are teams of 10 specialists, who use a 3D printer to create a frame of the house, roof, walls and other parts. CEO of the Project Maxim Gerbut convinced that building a similar home is much cheaper than traditional construction methods used. Maxim Gerbut has been studying the technology of “smart homes” for 15 years, so he is convinced that mechanization accelerates the construction process and makes it cheaper. It is worth noting that ordinary homes lose a lot of heat through seams. PassivDom has seams, which print the solid part and wall steel stronger in 6 times, as the wall uses the carbon-based material of that fiberglass. Such a house does not lose heat, which cannot but strike.

After that house is fully printing, it needs a lot of  accessories of the equipment, which is installed manually. The house has IKEA’s furniture and access to air conditioning, heating, alarm systems and other systems is carried out using a regular smartphone.

Each part of the house is subject to recycling, the building is erected for a day. It is not necessary approvals for PassivDom, so you do not have to worry about issuing permissions. The house is completely energy-independent due to solar panels generating energy, and excess energy is stored in the battery.

PassivDom uses 20 times less energy than a normal home, that electricity will be enough for all consumer needs even in winter. In addition, if five people will live in one house, the house will be heated only by breathing.

The quality of the air in the house is regulated by the intellectual system of environmental control, the code of which was written to order. Sensors monitor controls level of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the home, as well as capture gases that are hazardous to human health. If you think, it is all that is not the case. “Intelligent” houses produce their own water from the air. This is possible due to the built-in reservoir for 1000 liters of water, as the way of condensation of moisture from the air is formed. The reservoir generates liters every 10-15 every day, but developers are keen to increase these figures.
